Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He left His followers with the most important instruction ever given. He did not say, ‘Consider sharing the Gospel when it is convenient.’ He said, ‘Go.’ It was a clear, direct, and urgent command — and it was given to every believer, not just to pastors and missionaries.
Matthew 28:19–20 records these powerful words: ‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.’
This is what Christians call the Great Commission — and it is the heartbeat of everything we do at 4 Gospel. But what does it really mean for you and me today? Let us explore.
The Great Commission is the final instruction Jesus gave His disciples before ascending to heaven. In it, He commissioned every follower of Christ to go into all the world and share the Gospel — the Good News of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
It is not limited to full-time ministers or foreign missionaries. It is for every parent, student, worker, neighbour, and friend who bears the name of Christ. If you are a believer, you are commissioned.
It is called ‘great’ not just because of who gave it — Jesus Himself — but because of its scope. It is global. It is eternal. It touches every tribe, every tongue, every nation, and every generation. No other mission in human history comes close to its magnitude.
The stakes are eternal. We are not talking about improving someone’s quality of life for a few years — we are talking about eternity. Every person who hears and believes the Gospel receives the gift of eternal life. That is what makes this commission truly great.
One of the most encouraging parts of the Great Commission is the promise Jesus attached to it: ‘And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’ (Matthew 28:20)
Jesus never sends us out alone. When you step out in faith to share the Gospel — whether with your neighbour next door or a stranger across the world — He is right there with you. You carry not just a message, but the very presence of the living God.
There are still billions of people in this world who have never heard the name of Jesus. Nations remain unreached. Communities remain in darkness. Hearts remain without hope. The harvest is truly great — and the workers are still few.
But here is the good news: you do not have to change the entire world on your own. You just have to be faithful with the person in front of you, the community around you, and the calling within you. One conversation. One prayer. One gift. One life changed at a time.
The Great Commission is not just a historical command — it is your calling today. Will you answer it?
